Sojourner - Overwhelming
Yes! This 7" is awesome! Hardcore bands often get criticized with recycling old lyrical and musical paradigms and structures... Sojourner is not one of those bands. Sojourner embodies what a good hardcore (in terms of late 80s and some late 90s) band is with its own personal flare. Think Sheer Terror, District 9, Enuf, Face Value, Crown of Thornz, 25 Ta Life stylings with incredibly quick tempo change-ups (reminiscent of first wave hardcore bands) and crazy buildups to nothing. When Barricade broke up Brian and Jay had songs left over in a similar vein and Sojourner became the new barricade. Their first show had no drummer so Brian played drums and sang which was wild. Soon the band found its members (which seem to fluctuate often) and began pressing records/touring. Sixes went on tour with Sojourner for two weeks last year and it was hilarious. Naked desert adventures. Also I should mention they also made a music video. There's an Alice in Chains cover on the B-side. At first I wished they would have just written more material but I've learned to appreciate it now that they have an LP out.
