Stop and Think - Demo CS

Divebombs baby. Speaking of five songs paving the way for a musical subgenre, fucking duh, here is Stop and Think. The early 2000s were a good year for contemporary hardcore in my opinion. 90's bands didn't do it for me too much aside from a small chunk, maybe I'm just biased because I grew up around these bands but Lockin' Out really did it for me. This cassette was released on Stand Hard Records and isn't as good as the second demo in my opinion. I got the LP with both demos on it and if anyone out there has a cassette version of the second demo hit me up, I'd be willing to do some trades. Anyhow shit is good as hell. You can't hear "Get Lost" and not mosh and "Stop and Think" basically paved the way for that fucking early 2000s sound. Listen to the track you'll get it. "T.J.R.B" is an instrumental back in the times when bands wrote those for frontman and audience mosh time... why don't people do that anymore? "Up to Our Necks" picks up the pace again and drops it heavy and "Blood Red" closes the tape out with some stomp and ends it abruptly leaving you wanting more. I always gotta put on the rest of their material when it's over. Surprised I didn't get this up sooner but what I put up is usually way arbitrary. Boston Straight Edge. Perfect tape and the releases only got better.

Condition - Deteriorating EP

Now here is a bundle of five songs you can grip with both hands. I have no doubt these recordings will be setting the standard for many bands to come. God was I blown away. We were playing with them at Subversion and in LA and Joey was pumped. He played them for me and at first I didn't think much. I liked it from what I heard but then I saw them live and was fucking blown away. Furthermore I didn't realize Sam was the brainchild of this band, love you dugg, so that was a damn pleasant surprise. I had the pleasure of meeting Chad and Matt and crashing at Chad's place a few nights in a row which we kinda wrecked. Thanks again Chad. Really awesome people playing some really awesome fucking music. It was just plain menacing. So fucking loud I could hardly stay on my feet. Matt was clad in chains and trying to tie people up with tape in the audience while he simultaneously wrapped his own face. I also believe he was wearing sunglasses for a good half the set. During Gag's set Adam nailed him in the face and he got a pretty good sized welt. The whole night he kept saying "Where's your singer? I'm gonna get him back so good tomorrow" every time he saw me. This beautiful bundle of five songs will keep you flipping it over and over. The first thing I was struck by were the sick noises in the opening reminiscent of Void. I was let in on the secret behind them but forget it already. Some arrangement of pedals making chaotic noises, a nice personal flare. I feel like my heart skips a beat every time I hear "Smoldering Wreckage". Please jam this. Done on cassette and a limited run of 7"s. Didn't have to rip this one on my own, picked it up from Terminal Escape Credit where credit is due, thanks Robert.

Hounds of Hate - No Redemption 7"

Ever get bummed that the breaks on "Best Wishes" were made so wieney by the goofy singing and thrash metal aspects? Well here is your solution, the follow up to Hounds of Hate's demo tape the "No Redemption" 7". This record kills it. Pride in the music you make and Straight Edge seep out of the record grooves when you put it on the turntable. Ends with a choppy stomp track with some Oi nuances (as if the cover wasn't enough). Really great stuff, I have no doubt this record will one day come out of obscurity and stand the test of time years from now the same way Violent Tumor and Koro did for their genres. Actually just the same way all American hardcore records have in this shitty decade. If you see this record anywhere pick it up because it is long sold out. Peep Katorga for other great releases. My favorite contemporary band right now easy.

Hounds Of Hate - S/T CS

Got this tape in the mail from Flynn right before I left for tour. I wasn't bummed I couldn't give it a few spins because all the tracks were already burned into my brain. The tape opens up with "Pound of Flesh" which, if released in the late 80's, could easily have found its place on "Where the Wild Things Are" or "The Way It Is". The track fucking kills it right out of the gate. Because I'm already making a segue into a late 80s New York hardcore comparison I might as well continue. The tape is full of that musical flare that breaks it up from its contemporaries. Tempo changes in songs like "Pride" definitely remind me of some of that groove from the time. I feel like this band is what Krakdown would sound like if they ever had good production behind their music. I don't wanna limit my comparison to just one band because that would definitely sell Hounds of Hate short, I hear some hard groove in many other Krakdown contemporaries like Raw Deal, and a lot of the chords and effects on the guitar remind me of Burn (this is more apparent on the 7" which I'll put up next). Others have said the vocalist is reminiscent of Raybeez but I'm not hearin' it, the inflections are there but not the voice. Long story short Hounds of Hate is contemporary hardcore all its own, it sells the music short just comparing it to past bands. I don't know how they're doing it but Hounds of Hate is writing original hardcore music in the 2000s. I'm a sucker for the straight edge but there is no bias here. Much love for an objectively good band.

GAG White Wards - Split Tour CS

Here's an easy way to pick up everything GAG has done and a bunch of White Wards stuff. These Cassettes were made for tour and are now gone. Tour fucking ruled, GAG and White Wards killed the west coast twice and hit up Arizona and Texas on the way around. I played double duty every night until we picked up Alek in LA on the 18th so he could record. My drum set is now destroyed and I managed to lose my snare drum in San Francisco. If you see anyone walking around with a hard case with a giant White Wards sticker on it kick their ass then mail it back to me, you will be rewarded. Way too many antics to recount and I lost any photos I would have because my camera was in my snare case. Subversion fest killed and I got to see a shitload of bands I had wanted to see for a while and pick up some music to put up. We also got to play with a shitload of great bands multiple nights; Condition, Replica, Iron Youth, Blotter, Hunting Party, Hoax, and Needles to name a few of my favorites. White Wards full length was recorded by Jake (of Face The Rail, Synthetic ID, etc. etc.) in the bay on the last two days of the trip and it rips. Seriously is going to rule. Be on the look out for that White Wards LP and a GAG LP soon to follow this year.
